OBJECTIVES
The aim of the secondment is to study novel glass and glass ceramic compositions for the development of photonic systems in the infrared domain, enabling the combination of original photonic properties (luminescence, non-linear optical properties) and infrared transparency.
The focus will be on the study of heavy oxide-based glasses containing indium, compatible with the insertion or the precipitation of fluorinated or oxyfluorinated cristallites, as well as on the understanding of the demixing, nucleation and growth mechanisms.
The analysis of local environments will allow us to better comprehend the properties of the cristallized and amorphous phases. The addition of photosensitive agents will be exploited to induce phenomena such as cationic and anionic mobility, as well as local precipitation of fluorinated phases.
TASKS
State of the art, synthesis, structural study of both crystals and glasses, characterization (Raman, DTA, DSC, photoluminescence studies, powder and monocrystal-based XRD, PDF, 19F NMR), glass fiber drawing
RESULTS
(Expected) New and stable compositions of indium-based oxyfluorinated glasses and glass ceramics, with transparency in the mid-IR and luminescence in the visible domain.
